The Research Behind GHRP-6

Research into the production and use of peptides in clinical studies and experiments has been going on since the late part of the 1970s and the early part of the 1980s. One of the first naturally occurring hormones to be studied was growth hormone. In the mid-1980s GHRP-6 or growth hormone-releasing hexapeptide was developed and research both in vivo and in vitro.

Chemical Composition

The actual chemical composition of GHRP-6 includes the amino acids L-Lysine, D-Phenylalanine, L-Alanin, L–Tryptophan, D-Tryptophan and L-Histidine. This is a combination of naturally occurring amino acids, which is the L symbol. The D classification means that the amino acid is actually a mirror image of the naturally occurring equivalent and therefore is synthesized.

Binding

One of the interesting things noted is that when GHRP-6 is used there is a pulse or a burst of GHRH and subsequently growth hormone released in both cellular in vitro tests as well in research with animals in the lab. Researchers were able to identify that the GHRP-6 actually binds with receptors that are not the same as the receptors for naturally occurring GHRH in the cells. In simple forms where both GHRP-6 and GHRH were present it was as if the cells dramatically increased the receptors that were able to bind to the peptides and hormone to create a synergistic effect.

Other Effects

In an addition to the boost of HG in the body or in the cells resulting in increased muscle mass, higher metabolic rates and a decrease in fatty tissue deposits, there were additional effects noted in laboratory studies using GHRP-6.

One of the most important additional features is that by having higher GH the liver is more effective in production and secretion of IGF -1 which produces enhanced muscle growth and glucose metabolism in mice that are being injected with GHRP-6. Again, this synergistic function is most evident when researchers are using GHRP-6 with insulin in the test mice.

The studies with GHRP-6 and other GHRH analogs are very promising for a range of different applications. This peptide is readily produced in a powdered form and can be stored for years under very easily maintained cool storage methods.
