Are you new to the world of baking? If so, you may not have had the opportunity to use fondant. Fondant is a wonderful type of confection and is essentially a thick paste that is made from water and sugar. Fondant is flexible and can be molded into different shapes thanks to its pasty texture. Fondant is often used in cake decorating and can really bring an amazing look to a simple baked good. One of the best ways to take your cake decorating to the next level is to learn how to use fondant and especially how to use fondant molds.
Types of Molds Out There That Can be Used for Fondant
There are a number of different types of candy molds out there, but not all of them should be used for fondant. Chocolate molds, for instance, can generally be used for fondant, but you will want to be sure that you have a way to get the fondant out. Some chocolate molds are unyielding and if this is the case, it probably isn’t recommended to mold fondant. You can also use candy molds for fondant, which are a bit different than chocolate molds. In this case, you will want to again make sure that you can easily get your fondant out of the mold. Of course the best are fondant molds themselves, which are specifically made for working with fondant.
Preparing a Mold for Fondant
No matter what type of mold you use for fondant, you will need to correctly prep the mold. First of all, you will want to be certain to spray the mold with non stick cooking spray. You may also want to use powdered sugar or cornstarch as well to stop the fondant from sticking. This is fine for fondant, but once you do this, you will probably not want to use these particular molds for chocolate or other candies. Once these powders have been used, they can actually etch the mold, which will show up in your chocolate. When you have ensured that the fondant won’t stick, you are ready to carefully mold your fondant.
You can buy fondant molds at cake decorating or candy decorating stores both online and in retail venues. Always be sure that the molds are appropriate for fondant before using
