Laser removal in MD is a procedure where unwanted hair is removed by laser which also discourages re-growth. It only takes a few sessions with a dermatologist and the need to shave legs, underarms, bikini lines, etc is eliminated.
Hair follicles are surrounded by a form of pigment called melanin; it is this which absorbs the heat from the laser treatment. Hair which is dark contains considerable melanin and absorbs more heat than lighter hair. As heat is absorbed, the mechanism that spawns re-growth is damaged and kills the hair follicle. The treated hair will fall out and new hair will either stop growing altogether or if it does grow, it will be slow and sparse.
Not everyone is a candidate for laser removal in MD. The best candidate is a fair skinned person that has dark hair. The reason is actually quite simple; the skin also contains melanin, darker skin contains more than lighter skin and if the hair is lighter than the skin, very little heat will be absorbed by the hair; it will be mostly absorbed by the darker skin. A person with darker skin and light hair may not be satisfied with the treatment.
In all cases, a single treatment will not work, it requires follow-up treatments. The treatment only works on hair that is in a certain stage of growth. This stage is called anagen, not all hair grows at the same time and at the same rate so to remove hair that was dormant in one session; subsequent sessions are required until all hair in the area has been treated. It is not possible to pre-determine how many sessions will be required before the treatment can be called a success.
Prior to laser removal in MD the method used was electrolysis. Both methods require multiple sessions but for different reasons. In the case of electrolysis multiple sessions were needed as the procedure is uncomfortable, the need for multiple laser sessions has been previously described. In the case of electrolysis, the hairs were given an electric shock, one hair at a time, with a laser multiple hairs are treated and the discomfort is little more than that which may be expected from a slight sunburn.
Laser removal in MD is but one of the treatments available from Aesthetic Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery Center. The treatments include those which can help erase some of the signs of aging such as wrinkles and spider veins.
