Top Reasons Why Using Bandpass Filters With UV Coatings Is a Great Idea

by | Feb 10, 2022 | Glass Industry

Most people in the optical industry are aware of optical bandpass filters. As reliable as these are, however, sometimes you need a bit more oomph in the application department. This is where using UV bandpass filters can become a welcome part of your routine.

Applications

These types of filters are usually called for in two different scenarios. The first one is if someone is performing environmental testing. The second typical application is for sterilization by way of UV rays.

Manufacture

The way that these lenses are made also sets them apart from their related devices. Unlike other bandpass filters, these contain either a glass substrate or fused silica applied in a single layer. Over this layer is an oxide coating that provides a layer of protection to the surface layer.

Specific Wavelengths

Unlike shortpass filters, bandpass filters allow only a certain type of wavelength through them. The allowed wavelength depends entirely only n how the bandpass filter is designed.

Custom Made

Just as with any other type of filter, the UV bandpass filters can be manufactured to any custom specifications that the user desires. This not only increases actual usage but adds to their convenience as well.

Single Sided

The fact that the filters are single-sided versus double-sided is also a benefit that very few consider. This is because it takes minimal resources to achieve the same effect that a double-sided lens would be able to provide.

When purchasing these types of lenses, make sure the company stands behind its product.
