When the United States enacted the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act in 2003 to revise the Soldiers and Sailors Civil Relief Act, great care and attention was placed on ensuring the protection and rights of military service members. The Act was put in place in order to protect,  not only the rights but also the personal information of current active military members. The Servicemembers Civil Relief Act Centralized Verification Service (SCRACVS) provides an on-line system for verifying active military duty status.  For years, this site has enabled litigants, lenders, and others to determine whether an individual is entitled to the protections of the Act.  The SCRACVS can usually supply this verification even if the requestor does not know the social security number of the individual.  In 2011,  the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act Centralized Verification Service added a new service when it introduced a secure new website that would permit military verification batch processing of active-duty military members, under the provisions of the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act.
