7 Ways to Prep for an Oral Surgery

The thought of getting surgery to fix your teeth problems might sound daunting. Here are simple tips to help you prepare for the procedure. Taking these steps will help you relax and prevent any complications.

Read the Pre-Op Instructions

Before you head in for your oral surgery in Edmonton, make sure you go over the pre-op instructions that the dentist or staff gave you. Follow those instructions. Don’t think about skipping even one.

Buy Your Medication Now

Before you go in for surgery, buy your medication. That way, once you come out, you can go home right away. You’ll be in pain or discomfort and it’s inconvenient to have to go to the pharmacy when you need to be recovering instead.

Get a Ride

Ask a family member to drive you to the dental clinic for the treatment. You’ll need them to bring you home, too. You won’t be able to drive. If there’s no one that you can ask, you can wait at the clinic until you’re ready to drive or you can call a cab.

Buy Groceries in Advance

You’ll want to be ready to take care of yourself after the surgery. Since you’ll be on a strict diet, swing by the grocery a day or so before the surgery to pick up food that you can eat and snacks that can get you through your recovery.

Dress Right

Pick comfortable clothing. Your arms need to be available for the IV. They also need to take your vital signs or monitor your blood pressure. A sleeveless shirt is a good choice.

Arrive Early

That way, you have time to collect yourself and stay calm. If you’re rushing in late, you’ll be stressed. That’s not a good start to the surgery.

Sleep

You’ll need your strength if you want to recover quickly. Get a good night’s sleep before the surgery.
