Diamond cutting fundamentals

Diamond is by far the strongest material available in nature. As a carbon based substance its hexagonal structure imparts it with inter-molecular bonds which are unheard of in almost any other material. That’s why diamonds are such an essential item in construction. Diamond saws and diamond drills can cut through just about anything.

However, you should know that diamond tools are heavy duty tools with a heavy duty purpose. They require considerable knowledge and some practice to handle correctly. That’s where this article comes in. It will teach you all the basics of using your diamond tool.

Using a diamond drill

There are two main ways of cutting using diamonds – drilling and sawing. Both require their own precautions and methods to implement effectively. Before you begin using your diamond drill, make sure the drill bit lines up with the material to be drilled. Make sure to mark on the material where you intend to drill so you don’t go wrong.

Then turn the drill on and then slowly press the drill into the material, then move it up and down to allow it to cool and remove the waste product of the drilled matter. To avoid drill slippage, you can use a pilot made from wood. Drill a hole in the wood then line this hole with where you want to drill on the material. Then use this hole to guide the drill neatly into the material you want to drill.

For added safety, you can use a clamp to securely hold down the material being drilled. It’s important to make sure the material doesn’t move because this could break the diamond drill. However, make sure you do use a clamp and never hold the drilling material in place with your hand as this can be seriously dangerous.

Use a diamond saw

Another way of using diamond cutting in London, or elsewhere, is to use a diamond saw. Diamond saws are great for cutting stone tiles and other hard material. Diamond saws are the best implement to use to make precision cuts in almost any material – whether you want to cut slivers of stone, curves in steel, or corners on led.

Make sure to set the saw up somewhere out of the way like your garage or other workspace. The easiest, most straight forward way to use a diamond saw is to cut straight lines. Mark the material you want cutting with a straight edged ruler and simply cut through with the diamond buzz-saw blade. Don’t cut too fast as this can break the blade. Cut slowly and gradually for the best cuts. When you’re done, remove the tile carefully before switching off your diamond saw.
