Home / Can You Pick Up The Phone & Order Fulfillment Services?

I suppose that there are places where you can do just that; but, probably, they will not be what I have in mind when discussing how to Order Fulfillment Services. Many of you were probably thinking along the lines of services that provide satisfaction through achieving your full potential; you were way off the mark. Should you have been thinking about achieving something that has been promised; you would have been closer to what I mean by the phrase Order Fulfillment Services.

So, What Do I Mean?

Actually, we are looking at customer Order Fulfillment Services which are part of what today is called supply chain management – SCM if you speak acronym. Supply chain management aims to provide an integrated system controlling procurement and logistics from point of origin to point of consumption. The term is often seen from the buyers end of the chain and he could be likened to a spider sitting in the middle of a large web (in fact, that isn’t too far from the truth considering how the buyer will be maximizing IT services and using the World Wide Web). The flies on the net are the suppliers that the spider buys from and he manages the net to his own advantage for fulfillment of his orders. Any Order Fulfillment Services that he introduces will be aimed at fulfilling his needs in areas like: just on time delivery; maximum price discounts; highest quality and extended credit.

On the other hand; producers of goods also have to fill (fulfill or complete) the orders that their customer sends to them. For producers; supply chain management can be applied in reverse direction. They can use it to plan and control the movement and storage of raw materials, work-in-process inventory, and finished goods from point of origin through their facility and on to the point of consumption by their customers.

Order Fulfillment Services provide that part of the chain that deals with:-

  • Finished product warehousing and storage.
  • Finished product inventory control.
  • “Pick and Pack” a term that covers taking items out of store when they are ordered and preparing them for dispatch.
  • Arranging shipping and all necessary documentation.

Many small to medium sized industries will prefer to sub-contract these duties to providers of specialized Order Fulfillment Services.
